I have 4 fighters 4 tactical bombers, 2 strategic bombers, 4 submarines, and a battleship within range of the two major UK and French fleets adjacent to UK. I will attack UK navy with full capacity. The fighter gives you scrambling options with high defense against UK or French naval attacks early. Buying land units here does not serve a purpose to establish dominance in the Med and buying a sea unit doesn’t make sense until you see what UK’s plan is in the Med for two rounds. My first Italian purchase will be a fighter regardless of what happens. The most common first purchase I have seen is a carrier and 2 transports, but I am not completely sold on that idea yet, but I may change my mind after the outcome of this game. This will hopefully cause the UK player to be concerned with Sea Lion to the extent that the will plan accordingly with a defensive purchase. The idea is to position the cruiser and existing transport in sea zone 112 where I will have at scramble setup to assist an UK air invasion on that sea zone if the UK player does not lose their planes on the first round naval scramble or moves to the Mediterranean to attack the Italian fleet. The reason I bought only one transport is because I want my Barbarossa plan to be effective from the beginning and to have infantry moving east. My first German purchase will be 1 transport, 5 infantry, and 2 artillery. This typically works really well in 1942, but my plan will slightly change due to the fact the Germany still needs attack pieces blended in to the purchasing model. When I play Germany, I am a huge proponent of the infantry push mechanic. I will make heavy assumptions about my opponents while developing this plan. After that, the purchasing and movements should seem mechanical while charging towards Moscow. I will try to develop a plan that will encompass several rounds of play that will detail possible movements and purchasing. Italy will be strictly holding the Mediterranean while attacking North Africa and the Middle East until the Atlantic French Coast needs defending. I will be playing against a full table of veteran players who are all relatively new to Global.Īs Germany, I plan to do a version of Operation Barbarossa. I have spent many hours reading forums and watching YouTube videos to try and come up with what I think will be the best approach to the game. Most of those games have been in the 1942 versions. I have been a huge fan and an active player of the Axis and Allies franchise games for many years. This is the beginning of my strategy series as a prepare for my first Global 1940 game as Germany and Italy.
